Role Overview

As the Head of Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A), you will lead Cortland’s enterprise-wide financial planning, performance analysis, and long-range forecasting. You’ll define the FP&A vision, delivering insights that drive growth, optimize capital allocation, and elevate decision-making across the organization. Acting as both a strategic partner and hands-on leader, you’ll turn business priorities into actionable financial strategies, guide investment decisions, and provide analysis that shapes key decisions for senior leadership. 

  • Lead company-wide budgeting, rolling forecasting, and long-range planning, translating strategic goals into actionable financial and capital plans. 
  • Standardize reporting across business units to ensure consistency. 
  • Monitor performance through P&L statements, KPIs, and variance analysis, surfacing insights to drive proactive, data-driven decisions. 
  • Deliver concise, data-backed analyses and recommendations to senior leadership, influencing enterprise strategy. 
  • Oversee financial modeling, cash flow forecasting, scenario planning, and cost-benefit analysis to assess performance and guide investments. 
  • Prepare financial materials for investor communications and rating agencies presentations. 
  • Support investment cases, pricing strategies and cost optimization initiatives. 
  • Identify growth opportunities, evaluate risks, and optimize capital allocation to maximize returns. 
  • Collaborate with Accounting, Investments, Development, and Operations to align financial plans across the organization. 
  • Foster continuous improvement, accountability and a growth mindsetEnsure all FP&A initiatives align with Cortland’s strategic priorities and core values. 
  • Build and mentor a high-performing FP&A team 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field; MBA, CPA, or CFA strongly preferred 
  • 10–15 years of progressive experience in FP&A or strategic finance roles, preferably within real estate or private equity 
  • Deep expertise in financial modeling, forecasting, investment evaluation, and performance management 
  • Strong foundation in operational and capital planning, risk analysis, and tax strategy 
  • Highly analytical thinker with strong business acumen, strategic communication skills, and leadership presence 
  • Proficiency with Excel, financial systems (e.g., Adaptive, Anaplan, or other ERP platforms), SQL, and data visualization tools
