Role Overview

As a Director of Business Development, you are responsible for developing Cortland Build’s go-to-market strategy for its various service offerings, establishing business and sales relationships, and leading the analysis and management of pursuit opportunities. Here are the roles you’ll play:

The Strategist

  • Develop annual business development plans for target market sectors; update plans on a quarterly basis
  • Keep abreast of the competitive landscape and develop strategies to differentiate Cortland Build
  • Lead creation of marketing/proposal collateral
  • Partner strategically with management relative to assigned market initiatives

The People Person

  • Establish business and sales relationships with potential clients and allies; build relationships across multiple levels of accounts and constituents
  • Generate leads and engage senior management to maximize opportunities
  • Collaborate with other groups within the company to address business opportunities, overcome obstacles, and explore any cross-selling opportunities available
  • Provide leadership in development of RFQ and RFP responses, presenting compelling value propositions to prospects/customers

The Go-Getter

  • Identify, understand, qualify, quantify, prioritize, and track pursuit opportunities
  • Stay up to date on trends/opportunities, participating in trade shows and other networking events
  • Work to meet and exceed sales targets in specific target market sectors
  • Manage the sales pipeline to ensure opportunities are pursued in a timely manner and expectations are met

Qualifications

  • Strong 10+ years of experience in construction industry with a strong emphasis on sales and strategy development, including proven success in winning business within challenging markets
  • Experience in the multifamily industry preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Sales, or related major or equivalent experience required
  • Excellent business finance and operations acumen
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications
