Job Overview

Cortland is seeking a highly motivated and experienced professional to join our Risk & Insurance team.  This role is crucial in supporting the execution of key strategic initiatives, ensuring projects are delivered on time, and supporting the overall health of the risk management department. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of project management methodologies, excellent communication skills, and experience working within a risk management or insurance environment.

 

This position offers an excellent opportunity to learn and grow within the risk management field within the exciting world of real estate.  The ideal candidate will have a strong analytical mindset, excellent communication skills, and a desire to contribute to a proactive risk management program

Roles You Will Play

  • Data Analysis & Reporting: Collect and analyze data related to incidents, claims, and other risk-related metrics.  Prepare reports and presentations summarizing findings and trends to support risk management decision-making.
  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvement within project management and contribute to the development of the best practices within the Risk & Insurance team.
  • Insurance Program Support: Assist in the administration of the company's insurance programs, including policy renewals, claims processing, and certificate of insurance management.  This may involve communication with insurance brokers and carriers.
  • Special Project Planning & Execution: Develop comprehensive project plans, including scope, timelines, budgets, and resource allocation for the Risk Management Team. Manage projects from initiation through closure, ensuring adherence to established methodologies and best practices. Example: Execution of seasonal readiness programs (large winter storms and hurricanes).
  • Risk Management Training: Support the development and delivery of risk management training programs for employees.
  • Policy & Procedure Development: Contribute to the development and maintenance of risk management policies and procedures.
  • Research & Best Practices: Stay up to date on industry’s best practices and emerging risks in the multifamily real estate sector.  Conduct research and analysis to identify potential areas for improvement in the company's risk management program.
  • Maintains and prioritizes workload, with high attention to detail & flexibility. Escalating issues as requested or necessary.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, strategic mindset, and problem-solving skills.
  • Team player with knowledge of business acumen and ability to collaborate with functional and corporate partners.
  • Able to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with colleagues across the organization.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Building Blocks of Success

  • Bachelor degree in Business Administration, Finance, Risk Management, or related major, or equivalent experience required
  • 5+ years of previous risk management or insurance experience preferred
  • Management experience preferred
  • Experience in the multifamily industry preferred
  • Self-motivated with attention to detail, organization, and analytical skills
  • Basic understanding of risk management principles and practices.
  • Familiarity with insurance policies and claims processes.
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
