Job Overview

As a Design Assistant, you support the team in administration and execution of the design process for acquisitions, renovations, and special projects of our multimillion-dollar, multifamily apartment home communities This is an entry level interior design position.

Roles You Will Play

The Facilitator

  • Propose and design apartment home reconfigurations on renovation design projects to improve space
  • Work with the design to review and verify design intent approval
  • Design model homes, which includes purchasing furniture, managing the budget, assisting with delivery and installation, and creating Care Binders
  • Work with the Investments, Cortland Build, and Architecture teams as well as vendors to ensure design intent is cohesive throughout the exterior and interior
  • Oversee furniture choices, budget, contracts, tracking, and installation of goods
  • Collaborate with in-house landscape architects on design direction throughout the site; approve of all finish selections

The Innovator

  • Assist senior designers in finish selections and develop design presentations
  • Build upon the design direction and create a design narrative to keep the space cohesive
  • Develop interior drawings, millwork details, finish schedules and FF&E selections 
  • Collaborate with the pool designer to maintain design direction; select all finish materials, FF&E
  • Develop a comprehensive and cohesive design direction for the fitness center; review fitness equipment plans with Fitness consultant

 

The Organizer

  • Coordinate and review all design documents; generate design presentations for unit interiors at varying scope levels
  • Work with the Preconstruction team regarding project cost and scope; collaborate with senior designers to maintain design direction and budget
  • Follow up on budgets and progressive pricing to see how they are developed and managed throughout the project to meet the overall budget
  • Work with Cortland Build and the Architecture team to develop comprehensive construction documents

  • Design projects are completed on time with superior functionality, and aesthetics.

Building Blocks of Success

  • Stellar 2+ years of professional design work (including internships or part-time work), ideally in high-end residential or hospitality environments
  • Strong 2+ years of experience with Revit software
  • Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design, Architecture, Decorative Arts, or related field
  • Well-versed in units of measurement; able to clearly communicate site-specific dimensions
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent Interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Preference for collaboration and working as part of a team
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Photoshop, Revit, Illustrator, and Bluebeam; ability to hand sketch
  • Ability to travel as required (50%)
