Job Overview

Cortland Build is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Multi-Family Project Engineer or Assistant Superintendent to join our growing team. The successful candidate will assist in the management and execution of multi-family construction projects across the Southeastern United States, with an initial focus on a historic renovation project in Augusta, GA, set to begin in February 2025. Future projects will include garden-style, wrap, and podium multi-family construction projects, supporting our in-house development team. The ideal candidate will have strong technical skills and a passion for multi-family construction, along with the ability to support project managers and superintendents in all phases of construction.

Roles You Will Play

  • Assist in Project Coordination: Support project managers and superintendents in coordinating the daily operations of multi-family construction projects, including planning, scheduling, and managing site activities.
  • Historic Renovation Focus: Aid in the execution of the historic renovation project in Augusta, GA, ensuring that the project adheres to preservation standards, local regulations, and timelines.
  • Subcontractor and Vendor Management: Assist with overseeing subcontractors and vendors on-site to ensure work is being performed to quality and safety standards. Track subcontractor performance and assist with resolving issues promptly.
  • Document Management: Maintain accurate project documentation, including RFIs (Requests for Information), submittals, shop drawings, change orders, and other construction-related paperwork. Assist with tracking and managing project records, including daily logs, safety reports, and inspections.
  • Scheduling Support: Help develop and maintain project schedules, ensuring that tasks are completed on time and resources are effectively allocated. Assist with tracking project milestones and adjusting timelines as necessary to meet deadlines.
  • Quality Control: Conduct regular site inspections and assist in ensuring all construction work complies with project specifications, quality standards, and safety regulations.
  • Safety Compliance: Support safety initiatives by ensuring that safety protocols are followed on-site, assisting with safety meetings, and monitoring work conditions to mitigate risks.
  • Cost Tracking and Reporting: Assist with tracking project costs, including monitoring budgets and helping with cost control efforts. Participate in buyout processes and support cost management activities.
  • Problem-Solving: Address issues or concerns on the job site, working closely with the project team to resolve challenges that may arise related to project scope, schedule, or quality.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with the project management and superintendent teams to ensure smooth communication and execution of all project tasks. Provide support across all aspects of construction to ensure project success.

Building Blocks of Success

  • 2-5 years of experience in construction, preferably in multi-family or residential projects. Experience with historic renovations or adaptive reuse projects is a plus.
  • A degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field, or equivalent experience in a construction-related role.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, and construction management software (e.g. Procore, ACC, Microsoft Project, Smartsheet, P6, or similar tools).
  • Basic knowledge of construction processes, materials, and scheduling. Familiarity with multi-family construction projects is strongly preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail to manage multiple tasks and ensure accuracy in all aspects of construction.
  • Ability to identify issues on-site and work with the project team to find solutions that keep the project on track.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with project teams, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Understanding of safety protocols and regulations in construction. Willingness to ensure a safe working environment for all team members.
  • Willingness to travel to various job sites across the Southeastern U.S. as needed.
  • Experience working with or managing aspects of garden-style, wrap, or podium multi-family projects.
  • Familiarity with historic renovation and preservation standards.
  • OSHA 10-hour or 30-hour certification.
  • Knowledge of project management software (e.g. Procore, ACC, Microsoft Project, Smartsheet, P6, or similar tools).
